PEDIATRIC HIP ULTRASOUND - DDC
Service Description
Pediatric hip ultrasound is the preferred method for evaluating hip development in newborns and infants under 6 months of age. It is a non-invasive, painless, and radiation-free examination, essential for the early detection of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), a condition that, if identified early, has a simple and highly effective treatment. The examination is performed using the dynamic and graphic technique (Graf method), which allows for the evaluation of: Shape and maturation of the acetabulum. Position and stability of the femoral head. Alpha and beta angles for hip classification. Stability during gentle maneuvers (ultrasound-guided Barlow and Ortolani maneuvers). A precise evaluation is performed, and the necessary images are documented for diagnosis and follow-up. WHEN IS THE STUDY INDICATED? Infants between 4 and 6 weeks of age (ideal study). Breech birth. Family history of hip dysplasia. Intrauterine restrictions (multiple pregnancies or abnormal positioning). Asymmetry of gluteal folds or limited leg abduction. Clicking or clinical instability. Post-treatment follow-up with a Pavlik harness or orthosis. ADVANTAGES OF THE EXAM: Radiation-free, suitable for all ages. Detects problems before symptoms appear. Allows for early treatment and avoids surgery. Quick, safe, and well-tolerated exam for babies. Detailed radiological report with Graf classification. PREPARATION: No special preparation required. It is recommended to bring the baby fed and wearing easily removable clothing. Parents can accompany the child throughout the entire study. 📍 Schedule a Pediatric Hip Ultrasound and ensure an early, accurate, and safe evaluation of your baby's joint development.
